ASFALTEX S.A. was founded in 1932 by Mr. José Orriols Roca as a derivation of his activity as a building company. The use of asphaltic pavements allowed him to get in contact with an english firm which provided him with the technology for the production of waterproof sheets, mastics, bituminous paints and asphaltic emulsions.
To develop this technology, he established the first manufacturing industry in Pueblo Nuevo (Barcelona).
Once the Civil War ended in 1939, the firm became stronger and the second generation of the family began to take part in the business. A first four-storey building was built in Pasaje Saladrigas, and more buildings were gradually added up to a total of 8.000m2.
The range of products was widened with the production of powder paints for façades and termal and fireproof insulators, such as additives for cement and concrete. New machinery was also set up for the production of asphaltic sheets and felt.
After the death of the founder in 1960, the firm continued with an outstanding development which caused the Board of Directors to decide to move the factory to the industrial area of Valldoreix, since the Barcelona installations were not big enough any more. Besides, there were branch offices in Madrid, Sevilla and Vizcaya.
The seniority and long experience obtained by the firm is due to the constant improving of quality of products as well as their applications, which is a fundamental aspect to face XXI century challenge.
